The Terrific TSO Trip

RHMS students visit Roy Thompson Hall.
On Tuesday, October 18th, the Grade 7 & 8 RHMS students received the opportunity to visit Roy Thomson Hall and listen to the marvelous Toronto Symphony Orchestra. This year, we, along with students from all over Ontario, were able to vote online for which pieces the Orchestra would play. The winning two pieces were Debussy: Clair De Lune, a piece with calm and peaceful melodies, and Rossini: William Tell Overture, a piece with bold rhythms and fast tempos.

One of the songs that the TSO performed was called Mothership. It had a mix of electronic sounds and classic instruments. We liked this piece because it was very interesting and we had not heard anything like it before. This piece was really fiery and fun. We felt like we wanted to dance to it!

For the finale, the audience had the controversial choice between the Batman and Spiderman themes, with the Spiderman theme being victorious.

Overall, the concert was an exciting and educational experience for the RHMS students who were able to hear professional musicians playing a variety of different music. We really enjoyed this trip to the TSO because it opened our eyes to different types of music. We hope that we can go back to hear more!
