Lunar Phases

Grade 8 students are studying the phases of the moon through in-class demonstrations.

Using a light, a white foam ball, a pencil and a dark room, students were able to analyze the changes in the moon.  The senior students looked at the first and third quarters; when the moon gets bigger (waxing) and smaller (waning); and when it is a crescent.

Students were able to see the phases of the moon by rotating the white foam ball (moon), in relation to the position of the Earth and Sun and document their findings.
