Marine Ecosystems

The RHMS Grade 7 students explored the effects of environmental disasters on marine ecosystems through a simulated oil spill during a field trip to the Ripley’s Aquarium. 

 

The Students were asked to find the best solution to a mock oil spill that occurs frequently in multiple locations in Canada. They were thrown a wild card scenario specific to those locations and figured out a budget carefully in order to clean up the spill successfully. They evaluated the efficiency of different cleanup methods, predicted the effects of an oil spill on a marine environment, and identified the resulting issues for society.
