Entomology Takes Over The Grade 3 Classroom

Grade 3 students create their own insects with a whimsical twist.
The grade 3 students took a break from novel study reading to appreciate some of the science behind characters in books – particularly the creatures they are talking about during language class (who live in a giant peach, of all places).  They became entomologists (people who study insects – a branch of zoology) and classified creatures as true insects or not, based on specific characteristics.

Then, some fun ensued when the students were asked to create their own insects using 3 essential features.  The hilarity certainly was a welcoming approach to understanding parts of what we are reading in class… with a twist on science and creativity, this moment was definitely a change from ordinary novel study comprehension!
