Form Takes Shape

Over the past month, students in Grades 5 & 6 have been learning about the Elements of Music. The last element to learn was the most complicated form. However, thanks to Ms. Meharchand’s studies in her Master of Education program, students were exposed to a pedagogical tool called constructivism. Using constructivist teaching, students were able to visualize form by using math manipulatives such as hexagons, pentagons and other wonderful polygons.

 

Combining their visual aid with the music being heard, students were able to work out difficult forms and identify key movements within pieces. Students were able to finally have fun with form!
