Montessori Shining Lights

Learning about the Northern Lights in Montessori Art.
We just finished learning about the solar system, and in our art classes we learned about a beautiful phenomenon we can see on earth, the Northern and Southern Lights (Aurora Borealis and Aurora Australis) and how they are created from solar winds, at the northern and southern poles.  We read the book “Aurora:  A Tale of the Northern Lights,” by Mindy Dwyer, and we used chalk pastel and curvy templates to create our own Aurora Borealis in the sky.  We finished our Northern Landscape projects with silhouettes of evergreen trees made with edging scissors.

You can see some of the beautiful finished products on the bulletin board outside the Montessori Office.
