Robotics

Grade 7 students use Lego to build pneumatic robot arms in science class.
Last week, students in grade 7 had an in class workshop from Logics Academy. They built their own pneumatic robot arms that can pick up and move objects. Using the robotic arm as a lever, students used problem solving skills to calculate and compare the ideal and actual mechanical advantage. Throughout the process, students studied the mathematical relationship between pressure and force, and practiced some simple unit conversions. At the end, students modified their machines to lift the maximum amount of weight.

Students left the class with a better understanding of pneumatic systems and the workshop was a great introduction to our systems unit in science.
