Have you heard of the game, “Musical Chairs?” Well the Grade 3 students played a round of “Musical Test Tubes” in the science lab. The children have been investigating the different properties of sound all month, including reflection, absorption, and volume. Now, they are investigating pitch. By tapping and then blowing across test tubes filled with different amounts of water and air, students discovered how the amount of vibrating material affects pitch. Understanding this property of sound should certainly help the children in their next project: designing and building a musical instrument!
