The Bias Café

Grade 6 Students Learn About Bias and Stereotypes

RHMS students learn to be conscious citizens of the world, and an important part of that is considering what they see in the media with a critical eye. Yesterday in Grade 6 Language Arts class, Ms. Coady’s innovative lesson got students thinking critically by partaking in The Bias Café! A unique in-class café where the day’s special was preparing 3 questions to ask their partners about bias and stereotypes that they observe in the media. Students brought in an item to discuss with their partner while enjoying some healthy snacks. They addressed the forms of bias and stereotypes present in their partner’s item and discussed why that was. Amazing critical thinking Grade 6's!
