Rain cloud in a jar

Montessori students are continuing to study weather patterns, and recently, conducted an experiment to create a rain cloud in a jar.

Using a large jar, shaving cream, food colouring and droppers, students watched as colored water flowed south through shaving cream and into the clear water below.

In this experiment, the shaving cream acts like the clouds, the clear water acts as air, while the coloured water serves as rain.

This weather "do-it-yourself" gave preschoolers an opportunity to explore clouds and rain in a first-hand and fascinating way.
