What is blood made of? That is what Montessori students answered in an activity all about blood cells!
Using red water beads, white ping pong balls, foam, water and a sensory tub, children were able to simulate different elements of blood.
Children learned that red blood cells (water beads) carry oxygen; while the white blood cells (ping pong balls) combat bacteria and viruses. As well, the platelets (foam) help to heal cuts; and the plasma (water) moves the blood through the veins and arteries.
This activity allowed preschoolers to gain some hands-on learning, and an opportunity to explore the living liquid!
