2020-2021 Science Expo Grade 8 First Place Winner

Congratulations to Grace who placed first in our Grade 8 category for her outstanding Science Expo Project for the 2020-2021 school year. 

The winning experiment conducted ways to amplify and increase the concentration of sound through surgical masks. The test was to determine which acoustic mirror is the most successful in reflecting and focusing on sound waves, and creating a loud sound decibel. The main materials consisted of 3 different acoustic mirrors created out of paper, styrofoam, and stainless steel which were then attached to the sound funnel which forms a sound amplifier. Each acoustic mirror was constructed 3 times (9 in total) and tested by the speaker in a constant volume three times. When the results were gathered it concluded that an acoustic mirror made of paper creates the most functional design of an amplifier through a surgical mask.
