Black History Month Virtual Author Visit

As part of our focus on Black History Month, RHMS Grade 2 students had a virtual author visit through the Richmond Hill Public Library. Author Ekiuwa Aire, a Nigerian children's author who now lives in Canada, spoke to the students about African history and culture. She read excerpts from her book “Idia of the Benin Kingdom and Nijnga of Ndongo and Matamba”. The book is a true story of a girl who grew up into a diplomatic and brave woman, famous for standing up for herself and her people.  She became the Queen of two ancient African kingdoms. 

 

The children were very engaged and enjoyed the question and answer session at the end of the presentation.
