Montessori Metamorphosis

RHMS Montessori children have been observing the lifecycle of the silkworms.  Silkworms eat only Mulberry tree leaves and they molt 4 times before they become the adult silkworms. Once they are ready, they look for the perfect spot to start their cocoon.

It was amazing for the children to see the complex process of the silkworms forming their perfect cocoon before they go through metamorphosis and turn into a pupa. Finally, the silk moths come out of the cocoon and start the last stage of their life cycle by mating and laying eggs. The students were excited to see a silk scarf that was made with silkworm’s silk.

It was a fascinating experience for our Montessori classes!
