Young scientists from York Region showcase their impressive research and innovative designs.
Last Saturday, our grade 7 and 8 Science Expo winners competed at the York Regional Science and Technology Fair. The Fair is open to students from grades 7-12 from all of York Region. The projects this year covered a variety of topics, from Fogponics (the future of food) to recycling polyethylene to reduce the amount of plastic found in our landfills. This year, the science fair was hosted by York University and was even covered by CTV news! All of our RHMS students can be commended for their hard work and effort this year. They all did a wonderful job! The following students won a medal and/or award this year:
Grade 7
Alya. F received an honourable mention for her project on using grass clippings, manure and food scraps to produce a clean biogas.
Ariz. B received a gold medal for his project on using turmeric as an antibiotic substitute. Ariz will be not only representing RHMS, but also all of York Region at the Canada-Wide Science Fair from May 15th to May 20th in Montreal. We wish him the best of luck!
Grade 8
Daphne. J received a silver medal for her project on the concentration of fluoride in our drinking water and the effects of that concentration on the human body.
