The Musical Science of Test Tubes
Grade 3s put sound and science to the test
RHMS Grade 3 students found the musical rhythm in test tubes.
The tubes, filled with varying amounts of coloured water, each produced different vibrations and pitches. Students were responsible for ordering their test tubes from highest to lowest pitch.
This experiment mirrors wind instruments, like the clarinet, flute and trumpet -- sounds are created when air inside the instrument vibrates.
