Principles Of Design

Just before Winter Break, RHMS in-class and online art students in grades 3 through 8 learned about Emphasis and Contrast - two Principles of Design.  After practicing and progressing through various art tasks, students learned how to effectively use both principles to attract attention and make images stand out.  Students then created a final piece of work that incorporated both Emphasis and Contrast within a single artwork project.  Each grade level was challenged with a different form of contrast to add to their piece: from featuring size contrast, how to use warm and cool colours, showing 2D and 3D shapes, displaying complementary colours, highlighting colour and black and white, and focusing on light and dark. The results were eye-catching and their talents surely stood out!
