Oil Spill

This week the grade ones learned about several reasons why we need to protect water. They learned that many people in places in Canada and around the world don't have access to clean drinking water; that plastic pollution is taking over the oceans around the world which is harming animals and habitats; and that oil spills can impact water and marine life.

After reading the book Oil Spill! by Melvin Berger the grade ones had hands-on experience with just how difficult it is cleaning up an oil spill.  They used various materials and supplies to try and soak up the oil that had coated animals in the water including ducks and birds. The grade ones hope that other people will learn about the importance of water and do what they can to also become water protectors!
