Newton's Laws of Motion

RHMS Grade 8 STEM students blasted off into the weekend with balloon rockets, air pucks and rolling carts. The students investigated Newton’s three laws of motion by observing how changes to force or mass can affect the motion and acceleration of an object.

They created balloon rocket systems, where they designed an efficient system that would allow their rocket to accelerate across a fishline. Next they headed to the roller cart station to explore the relationship between mass and acceleration by observing the acceleration of a cart as weight increased on a pulley system. Finally, students created air pucks and some even enjoyed a game of air hockey.

The students had so much fun with their discoveries. They learned that physics is everywhere. It is continuously present in our life in our everyday activities.
