RHMS Grade 8 students are exploring the element of value in their Fine Arts unit, developing their artistic techniques using graphite pencils, charcoal, and blending tools. Through a series of value studies, students have practiced creating highlights, shadows, tints and tones to bring three dimensional forms to life on a flat surface.  From spheres and fabric folds to shaded rock formations and still life compositions, each exercise strengthens their understanding of light, depth and contrast. 

As students prepare for their final mixed-media masterpieces, they will combine black and white shading with colour values.  We look forward to seeing their creativity and artistic skills shine through their work.
