Early Spring Sweetness

RHMS Montessori students headed out for an exciting day of activities at the Kortright Centre this week! The children explored nature while learning to identify maple trees and discovered how sap is extracted from trees in a safe manner, minimizing waste to the environment. They learned about the history of syrup making from Aboriginal to modern day times. They got the chance to see this amazing Canadian tradition up close when their guides showed them the equipment used and cooking procedure for deliciously sweet maple syrup. At the end of the demonstration the children even got to taste the maple syrup for themselves!
