This year, Grade 8 students have become familiar with the anatomy and the physiology of the human body considering the important topics of nutrition and substance use, misuse and abuse.
Francis Sem, a parent of three RHMS alumni and well-known physician working as an Emergency Medicine and Family Doctor at Toronto East General Hospital, paid us a visit that has become a tradition for many years now.
To help the students better understand the main functions of the human body, Dr. Sem engaged the two classes in a fun-filled presentation. From a demonstration of the functions of the spinal cord with plastic water bottles, the circulatory and lymphatic systems mapped all around the classroom floor, exploring the trachea and esophagus on a mannequin, it was a pleasure to participate in Dr. Sem’s virtual tour of the human body! His innovative, creative and interactive presentation had students once again engaged and excited.
