Connecting with Nature Through Film and Art

Grade 7 and 8 students visit the AGO for the annual Planet in Focus Film Festival

This week Richmond Hill Montessori Private School students in Grades 7 and 8 visited the Art Gallery of Ontario to attend the Planet in Focus Film Festival, which showcases environmental films from directors around the world. This year students watched a film called “Sea of Life”, which was produced and filmed by a young Canadian director, Julia Barnes. The documentary led the students through the stunning world of coral reefs and into the heart of the environmental movement, meeting passionate scientists, activists, and explorers who reveal an enormous opportunity to rise up and become the heroes the world needs. Our grade 7 and 8 students left the theater with a sense of purpose and with the knowledge that every person, young or old, can make a difference.

“There is simply no issue more important. Conservation is the preservation of human life on earth, and that, above all else, is worth fighting for.” -Rob Stewart
