Music Classes Experience the Magic of Film Composing
Silent films were popular in the early 1900’s, but they are still relevant in providing pedagogical opportunities today. The students in Ms. Meharchand’s music class were exposed to the silent film “Mickey’s Haunted House”, made in 1929, and were challenged to create their own soundtrack to align with the scenes in the film. Students were able to use any and all instruments available to them. At the end of each class, the whole group came together to perform while watching the silent film. The creativity shown in the students’ ingenuity was fascinating, and Ms. Meharchand’s wonderful activity will definitely resurface before Winter Break!
