Exploration Improves Memorization

Grade 3 Students Map their Classroom and the RHMS Grounds

We’ve been following our Grade 3 students as they learn to navigate the world around them. Last week, the students ventured out onto the grounds of RHMS to test their sharp memories!  They were challenged to use their fantastic memorization skills to create a map of their classroom using the 5 very important parts of a map that their classes learned about.

They also had the opportunity to hunt for clues around the field through a scavenger hunt. It led them to a secret message which incorporated information learned through their Mapping Skills Unit in Social Studies. The field was made into lines of latitude and longitude in order to locate several items to help decode the message. It was the ideal day (weather-wise) for the mapping adventure and the students really enjoyed their role as cartographers and explorers!
