Contraction Surgery

Grade 2 Students Perform Surgery on Contractions

RHMS Grade 2 students got to be mini surgeons in Mrs. Aman Kaur’s inventive and imaginative grammar lesson today. Students each worked on a word combination that was their “patient”. They disassembled the letters or “performed surgery” on it, and then put it back together as a contraction with a Band-Aid. They then had to insert a “stitch” by drawing an apostrophe on their contraction “patient” with a marker. The students were especially excited to be surgeons for the day and concentrated intently on the work at hand. This lesson was an ingenious way to teach students to grasp an abstract concept like contractions in a material and concrete way.
