Iggy the Architect

Grade 2s Build Bridges to Save the End of Iggy’s Story

The Grade 2 classes were reading a story called “Iggy Peck, Architect” in Science class and stopped when Iggy needed to find a way to get his class from one side of the ridge to the other. RHMS students stepped in to finish the story by coming up with their own inventive ways to cross the gap. Mrs. Sadler and Ms. Quidayan recreated the scene from the book with two ridges and a bucket of water between them, and challenged students to get Iggy and his friends from one side to the other. The children created some amazing stable structures and tested their strength by piling miniature figures of Iggy and friends onto their bridges. The students came up with some inventive ways of reinforcing their bridges, and once Iggy and his friends made it across they were able to finish the story!
