The Art of Positive and Negative Space
Montessori preschoolers use art to understand shape and space
Montessori preschoolers in Ms. Scalzi's class explored the connection between positive and negative spaces, all while creating their own original art.
Children were asked to design their work on coloured construction paper. The exercise included cutting out designs and connecting the shapes in a symmetrical fashion.
The project allowed children to focus, be creative, and feel successful. Additionally, this exercise provided an introduction to composition and patterns.
